Using the force at special events

Updated: Oct 18, 2024

Whenever I attend special events, I harness my energy and creativity to navigate the dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environment of the attendees.

Many vendors might wish they could attract or repel an audience with a simple wave of the hand. I’ve often fantasized about possessing such an ability myself!

But what if this isn't just a fantasy?

There's a lot of discussion these days about attraction marketing. Evidence suggests that aggressively pursuing sales may not be the best strategy for sustainable business growth. We value repeat customers, but high-pressure tactics often drive them away.

So, if you can’t strong-arm people into buying, what can you do? The answer is simple: engage in something like what Mike Macdonald talks about in his ebook on attraction marketing!

Even as I write this, it’s hard to believe that people will simply come to me. Yet, intellectually, I know it's true. When people need something, they search for it, and if they know where to find it, they will come.

I place myself in the clients’ shoes and think about what I do when I need a solution for a problem or a project. My first instinct is to search on Google. Google is an invaluable tool.

Remember when I discussed social marketing in a previous blog post? If not, feel free to revisit that strategy here. People use Google because they understand the vast market out there. Your time and energy are valuable, as are theirs, so if you’ve prepared your business well, you’ll attract customers. But are they the customers you want?

My incredibly smart wife (and best friend) suggests that attracting the right business involves nuances. I agree. You might have a solid business plan and great skills, but have you thought about who you really want as clients?

I have. I’ve spent considerable time pondering this. What you think often leads to actions by you or those in your influence. This is why I’ve embraced the nuanced aspects of attraction marketing my wife talks about and why I spend time each morning visualizing my ideal clients, the income I want to earn, and the activities I enjoy in our new home. I focus on the feeling that it's already happened. I celebrate the little wins and imagine even bigger vacations for my family and I!

I hope this information inspires you to connect with people in ways that will benefit your business and that you continue to thrive by amplifying your own good vibrations by running with your strengths (which are truly informed by your aptitude); all while building up your weak points through education or teamwork - that's the Dream Work!

By the way, I often refer acquaintances to great movies, the best dentist I’ve visited, and a plethora of other resources because I love helping others if I think it will benefit them. What kind of distant friend would I be if I didn't let y'all know about an upcoming chance to meet some really fantastic artisans in the Yakima area?! So check out the upcoming Sip and Shop! It'll surely be worth it!

Until next time, sketch ya later!

Mark
